The Institute of Trade Fair Management, University of Cologne was jointly founded in August 1999 with Koelnmesse, and is supported by the foundation "Koelnmesse Stiftung". Since the summer term 2000, students have taken part in lectures and practical seminars on strategic and operational trade fair management, e.g., pricing, competitive strategies, internationalization and logistics. Courses in trade fair management are offered as a specialization for students in the bachelor and diploma programs of the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences of the University of Cologne. More than 200 students have already acquired attendance and achievement certificates for the core teaching sessions, providing the foundation for a successful career entry in the trade fair industry.

The University of Applied Sciences Osnabrück was a pioneer in the field of Event Management in Germany: Students have been studying Event Management as a major here since 1993. From 2010 we will be offering students an additional course specialisation, which will more than double our range of courses. Our focus lies on the management of trade fairs, congresses and corporate events as well as the management of event services. The University of Applied Sciences Osnabrück offers the double degree programme "International Event Management Shanghai" as a joint venture with the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade (SIFT) in English. There are currently 300 Chinese students enrolled in this double bachelor degree programme. Osnabrück students can also study Event Management at SIFT in Shanghai.
