The Helsinki Exhibition & Convention Centre has ventured into something completely different from normal fair and congress activities. A team of ten graffiti artists has created a 160 metre-long painting on the exterior wall of the centre's largest hall. In all, the painting includes nine works of art. It will remain in place for the coming year, until completion of the new Hall 7 and demolition of the present eastern wall in due course.
In its latest update on the progress of the 50-million EUR IMPACT hotel, the IMPACT Exhibition and Congress Centre in Bangkok, Thailand, announces that the building is now 70% complete and expected to open in January 2011 as scheduled. The hotel will be managed by Accor under the Novotel brand and operate under the name Novotel IMPACT Muang Thong Thani.

Gold: Final presentation Qatar Integrated Railway System
Jury's statement: The emergence of Qatar Railways with everything that belongs to a modern passenger transport system is simulated in this project with maximum precision and perfection and realised to an exceptionally high standard with outstanding attention to detail.
From railway station to train compartment, a world is created into which the Emir of Qatar is immersed to experience the vision of his emirate to come. It is only logical that one of his wives should make this exceptional and spectacular vision of the future accessible to the public and convey the lasting effect to the population.

MS Wissenschaft (exhibition ship MS Science)
Jury's statement: Experiencing science – this event certainly succeeded in getting the target group on board. The old vessel in whose belly modern media and exhibits are stashed provides a triumphant dramaturgical contrast. The target group of children and young people is captivated and their enthusiasm aroused for modern scientific themes. The mobility of the “exhibition site” lends added attraction to the concept, communicating the message to students throughout Germany – the only condition being that there is a river or canal nearby.

Bronze: International Cebit 2009 launch event
Jury's statement: At the opening ceremony for Cebit 2009, still the biggest computer fair in the world, the real and virtual world were skilfully linked. “Stories from a Global Village” became an allegory for the networked world and illustrated quite pragmatically how our lives today are determined by the internet. The event brings the Webciety – the “webbed” society and the key theme of Cebit 09 – close enough to grasp, offering the keynote speakers at the opening a host of sympathetic tie-ins.

AV media: the art of audio-visual experience
If applied selectively, audiovisual media can make for exciting effects or even make an event. But the attraction must suit the character of the event and the visitor’s experience is paramount.
